Sammy Watson Announces Decision To Turn Pro By Doug Binder, DyeStat Editor Sammy Watson, who tore up the high school record books before undertaking a successful freshman campaign at Texas A&M, has turned pro, according to the Democrat & Chronicle. Watson, a 2017 graduate of Rush-Henrietta High in upstate New York, is 19. She was a star at the high school level and a double gold medalist at the 2015 IAAF World Youth Championships and 2016 IAAF World U-20 Championships. Watson ran 2:00.65 he senior year of high school for No. 3 all-time outdoors. She owns high school national records indoors in the 600, 800 and 1,000 meters and was also part of Rush-Henrietta's record-setting Sprint Medley Relay in 2015. Watson capped her freshman season at Texas A&M with a NCAA title in the 800 in June. Prior to that, she was third at the 2018 NCAA Indoor Championships. |
